I’ve used WebEx before and it’s really neat. All you need is a connection to the internet, a browser, and you can connect to and remote control another computer. Where it comes into great use was on a WebMethods project where we had to get the WebMethods tech support to view our server and troubleshoot why it was not connecting to our Siebel objects. Word of warning: don’t use WebMethods - too many bugs, too unstable, too many patches, not enough functionality, etc., etc. WebEx, on the other hand, was a breath of fresh air. The simplicity in which this thing worked was amazing. There were no big installs, and it all seemed to be seamlessly ‘plug and play’.
Even before Cisco announced their deal, WebEx shares had already soared 56% since last year. With the Cisco announcement on Thursday that they would buy WebEx for US$4bn, the WebEx shares went up another 22 per cent, to $US56.73 on the NASDAQ. I need to look into adding some international shares to my portfolio…
