Google Founders working for peanuts

I’m a bit behind the eight ball on this one. Turns out Larry Page and Sergey Brin have been receiving a salary of just $1. Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt is also in the act. The three have doing this since 2004 and have decided to continue to do so this year aswell. Other notable people on the $1 payroll include Yahoo’s Terry Semel and Apple CEO Steve Jobs. Man these guys must really love their jobs. If only I had as much enjoyment out of mine. Of course, if I owned 32.1 million Google shares I wouldn’t need a salary either.

  • Larry Page: 32.1 million shares ($14.2 billion)
  • Sergey Brin: 31.6 million shares ($13.9 billion)
  • Eric Schmidt: 12.5 million shares ($5.5 billion)

Google’s vice presidents, though, weren’t so charitable with their salaries. They almost doubled their salaries from $250K last year to $450,000 this year.

  • Robert Eustace (senior vice president for engineering and research): $450,000 + $205,560
  • Omid Kordestani (senior vice president for global sales and business development): $450,000 + $249,296
  • George Reyes (Chief Financial Officer): $450,000 + $169,496 bonus
  • Jonathan Rosenberg (senior vice president for product management): $450,000 + $205,560 bonus

One of these days, I need to write a post on how to double your salary every year or two…
