Hottest Girl Online - take 2

I’ve noticed, whilst I have been brain-dead of good ideas over the last few months, there was a small trickle of visitors to hottest girl online, probably from googling “hottest girl online” where I sit nice and pretty on spot #5. Now this is nothing special but when I also checked my adsense account, I noticed that those organic search visitors were also clicking on my google ads. Now here’s a site that I practically paid no attention to over the last few months and it was making me money. It’s still small money we’re talking about but hey, any money for no effort is a nice profit. Awesome!

That bit of revelation has got me re-energised to spiff up the site a bit. I’ve given up on the user generated photo idea as there’s pretty steep competition from people who obviously have a lot more time on their hands than I (See BabeVsBabe or FlickrCombat). What I’ve done is transform it into a celebrity rating site and only include super hot famous girls. I challenge anyone to show me a site that’s done this already. I’ve been scouring the web and I’m fairly sure that I’m the only site that does it. Hows that for first mover advantage? You would have thought otherwise though, eh?

The new look and layout has been operational for a bit over a week now and it seems like the idea has already caught a few people’s attention - there’s been over 20,000 votes already! - neat! The best thing about it is that it takes very little effort for me to maintain :D

Next step for the site would be to

• Clean up the urls and title tags on the site to make them more seo friendly. This is not as easy as renaming files and adding some text here and there. I’ll need to do some actual php’ing as the site is powered by LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
• Add more girls. Surely there must be more hot celebs / models out there!
• Copy the idea over to Hottest Guy Online - yes I’ve registered that domain too :)
• Make a widget for facebook ( I hate myspace! ). This idea’s also been suggested by Killer Startups. In response to her question of why I haven’t already done so: Because there’s only 24 hours in a day and probably only 2 of those that I spend on these online activities. It’ll be quite interesting learning the facebook api though… all I could just pay someone to do it.
• Hire some bloggers to write articles on the site’s gossip section and take on Perez Hilton for the title of best celebrity gossip blog - hehehe.. unfortunately, this will mean that I need to spend some money so I’ll revisit this when I muster up some more commitment and vision.
