Unemployed mum wins $11 million Powerball prize

Damn it! Another week and another person wins a million and it’s not me! This week an unemployed mum from Hunter Valley bought a Powerball ticket as a present for her Daughter’s birthday cos she didn’t have the money for anything decent. Now they’re $11 million richer, sharing the $33 million jackpot with two other winners from Queensland and Western Australia.

She says:

“We are very poor - but not any more.”

She sounds pretty level headed. She’s gong to buy a house, some cars, and place the rest in a trust for a permanent annual income stream. Sounds a lot better than all those Current Affairs stories of people winning the lottery, spending up big and losing it all in a matter of years. Just the other week, there was this story about a quadriplegic man who won a couple of millions worth of compensation but he’s now back on Government grants cos he’s used up all his cash on useless collectors memorabilia. Sheez. I reckon people who suddenly get rich need to have financial counseling as a prerequisite to getting the cash.
