Why we want you to be Rich

Fresh off the press. Robert T. Kiyosaki teams up with the Don to knock up what’s sure to be a best seller. Ever the salesman, though, Bob constantly refers to his many other Rich Dad books - In my xxx book I mention this, in yyy book I said that. blah blah blah. Luckily though, the book is clearly split into two. Each chapter has Robert’s thoughts, followed by Donald Trumps.

I’ve lost so much respect for Bob that I pretty much didn’t read any of his words. To his credit though, I did pick up on his Cashflow Quadrant.

Cashflow Quadrant

E = Employee
S = Small Business
B = Big Business
I = Investor

It is very interesting to note that in this book, Bob has done a complete about turn from his Rich Dad, Poor Dad views. He agrees that within each of these quadrants, people have and can excel. Not everyone needs to be an investor to be rich, nor does everyone need to be in Big Business.

I found the Don’s words much better to read. This was my first time reading one of Trump’s books and it was as great as watching him on Apprentice. The Don gets my respects. It is invaluable to be able to read into the mind of a true billionaire. I especially enjoyed his recounts of his life, his up bringing, ever the boaster, when he made some great decisions that made or saved him $$$. He tells of how his dad started working at age 11 to support the family, how he turned a mansion into a niche club, and how by simply having the vision to change for smaller chairs saved him millions.

The best part of the book is in one of the later chapters - “I’m still in school, what should I do”. After my previous rant (and John Reed’s) about how dangerous his Rich Dad book is for kids, Bob finally succumbs to public pressure and realigns his views. He now recommends that everyone should stay in school, and finish a degree. “A degree is your ticket”, “Without a degree I would not have been able to be a pilot”, and “There’s so much variety of courses to learn at uni” (Disclaimer: These are not direct quotes but close enough)
