YouTube top 5 videos for 2006

YouTube is the new flavour of 2006. It’s come from literally no where to being bought over by G$$gle. With YouTube, people have been able to propel themselves to internet fame for what otherwise would have been meaningless internet clutter. And with fame, comes the opportunity to monetise the sudden spotlight from millions of eager net users - all just looking for that something to give them reason for existence and reason to web surf.

Here’s some ideas for you to work with to make that next ‘it’ vid.

1. Free Hugs Campaign: the song

An unknown Sydney Band, “Sick Puppies”, leverages Juan Mann’s free hugs campaign, and adds it to their soundtrack. Two months after adding it to YouTube, they have 7,621,401 views and are already in the all time top 20!!

2. Evolution of Dance

Judson Laipply does a 6 minute dance routine encompassing 50 years of music. I didn’t find this that interesting… there’s heaps better dances in the reality tv show “So you think you can dance”. Judson’s so popular now though that he gets thousands to appear on corporate functions to do his thing

3. Where the hell is Matt?

Matt Harding quits his day job and travels the world doing a silly dance and has the foresight to have it all on video! I bet next time though, he’ll be able to get his trips sponsored.

4. Pokemon Theme Music Lip sinking
Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox are the most popular lip sinkers on YouTube. So much so, that they now have 4 of their clips in the top 100. They have also signed up a deal to make vids for some YouTube competitor and have been offered some commercial gigs - way to go!

5. LonelyGirl15

Ramesh Flinders and Miles Beckett are novice Californian filmmakers who fooled the world with LonelyGirl15, diaries of small town girl named Bree. They’ve since been busted as fake but people still watch it by the millions. What a way to make a name for yourself. o and the actress’s name is Jessica Rose.
